NiMag Group is a specialist producer and exporter of high-purity nickel- and ferrosilicon-based master alloys, engineered for critical applications in metallurgical, foundry and alloying processes. With more than six decades of continuous operation, we have established a proven track record of product quality, performance and reliability.   

Beyond our standard formulations, NiMag Group develops bespoke alloy compositions and tailored particle-size specifications to meet unique process conditions and end-use requirements.  

Our global export footprint and long-term relationships with leading distributors and industrial customers underscore our commitment to reliable supply, stringent quality assurance and metallurgical excellence. NiMag Group’s sustained focus on quality control, technical support and process optimisation ensures that our products perform consistently in some of the most demanding industrial environments worldwide. 

Our people

The NiMag Group has a staff complement of just over 50 employees. Our impeccable reputation for manufacturing products to our customers’ specifications and within committed turnaround times has been earned through our uncompromising approach to quality, ensuring raw materials and manufacturing meet quality standards. We monitor and respond to market needs and opportunities, and actively engage with end users through our distribution networks.

We are proud to say that our workforce is more like a community, with many employees having been part of our operations for many years. Our people are encouraged to take responsibility and are empowered to do so through proactive leadership.

All employees have a self-development plan agreed with management each year. Through guidance, mentoring, on-the-job training and assistance with education, we help them achieve their goals and develop their potential.

NiMag is born

Steenekoppies Farm in Magaliesburg purchased by Metallurigical Processes (Pty) Ltd

1968

Production equipment and facilities established through financing by the Industrial Development Corporation. Production of nickel magnesium alloys begins

1970-1990

NiMag expands its markets and factory operations

1997

NiMag is ISO 9001 certified

1997

The production of ferrosilicon magnesium begins

2008

NiMag receives the State President’s Award for Export Achievement

2013

The production of atomised ferrosilicon for dense media separation begins through Metalloy Products

2015

The production of atomised ferrosilicon and specialised nickel alloy powder for welding applications begins

2018

Metalloy Products is ISO 9001 certified

Our structure

Established in 1962, NiMag Group is a privately owned business with two operating companies: NiMag (Pty) Ltd, which produces nickel-based master alloys, and Metalloy Products (Pty) Ltd, which produces ferrosilicon-based master alloys and powders. Both companies are based in Magaliesburg, a town west of Johannesburg, South Africa.

    NiMag Group is decarbonising our operations and has installed an on-site solar energy system capable of meeting 25% of our manufacturing energy needs. Further expansion of this system is planned. We also have a solar battery system to power the administrative and office functions in our business.

    We are ISO 9001 certified and our certification is independently audited bi-annually.

    We take our responsibility to the environment seriously and have a comprehensive environmental management plan which is independently audited at least once a year.

    Our responsibility for health and safety is our top priority, and we comply with all relevant legislation in this regard.
